Final Animation Project - 50 points
Mix Clay, Toys, Live Action to make a short, 1 minute, animated film based on one of the three films you watched in class. You will be graded on the range of your collective abilities and knowledge - that means, your group should be using all the techniques you have learned so far.
Planning
1. Get together in a small group, 3-4 and discuss the film. Decide what scene you would like to interpret. For superior results, use film script to help plan your shots. Try to have a mix of close-ups and long shots. Try different camera angles. Think about how you can motion match.
2. Draw a story board/shot list. Use the film script to help you. Each shots should be about 5 seconds long. Your import for a JPEG sequence is 8 frames. You will need 40 frames for every five second shot. A one minute film will need 480 frames. Rememer you can also use some live footage and any motion tool in After Effects. For "Top Gun" you could draw pictures of aircraft then use the motion tools to animate them.
3. Make a list of the materials you will need. You will need to draw a background for your animated characters. A complete list will include: Drawing materials such as crayons and pencils, colored paper, glue stick, scissors, clay, string, various objects, toys etc.
Script: Use the script to help organize your short film

Production
4. Draw your backgrounds and other objects. They don't need to be great works of art however they need to stand out in photography so you need to work with markers. Try to avoid too much white. Use colored paper. You can also cut out colored paper into shapes. This is much faster than drawing. Set up your scene. Make sure you keep all your materials together. You can put them in your backgroung box.
5. Shoot your scene. After you shoot one scene, import the images into After Effects and review them. Don't do all the shooting at once. Do one segment at a time. You may need to do as many as twelve segments.
6. After you shoot all your scenes, export to quicktime and use Imovie or Final Cut to edit your shots and add sound and music. Name your file with the four letters of your last names seperated by dashes and the word final. For example Gonz-Hern-Chan-Final.QT
